WHY WE NEED TO PREPARE FOR DISASTERS:
As Baba says, things will happen suddenly and so being prepared for any imminent disaster is vital. This website is for BK use only, please keep it private.
In some of the emails from BK Administration it was suggested to try to have enough stock on hand for up
to
3 months, or 3 weeks for short term emergencies.
Whether it’s from bushfire, flood, severe storm, earthquakes, or even tsunami, Australia has suffered loss of life and extreme damage to infrastructure from natural hazards.
And now we have a global pandemic affecting all aspects of our lives in so many ways, from food shortages, to hospitals being overwhelmed trying to
deal with thousands of Covid cases each week, to social, financial and mental instability, to name just
a few of the effects of coronavirus (Covid 19).
I personally make sure that I have extra of my medications and prescriptions on hand because we
don't know if medical shortages will occur.

I’ve done a great deal of research over many, many months and have tried to summarise it to the essential items needed, but please consider your own personal situation and adjust the lists to your individual needs. However, when summarising this information, I was very aware that providing the correct information is very important and so felt a strong responsibility to not skip over important details.

To make it easier to work through these pages, when doing my own disaster preparedness I chose one topic at a time and completed that.

This website is designed to have a simplified list of what you may need for disaster preparedness.

From BK feedback about previous disaster preparedness information that were sent out over the years from BK Administration, many souls have said that the information was far too long and complicated (I once received a BK disaster preparedness email that was 79 pages long).

And so, I've focused on simplifying it and letting you know of where to purchase some good quality products at good prices.

This website includes some important information about:

1. UNDERSTANDING DISASTER PREPAREDNESS,

AND WHY IT IS SO VITAL TO START NOW.

2. FOOD STORAGE (short & long term).

3. WATER PURIFICATION AND STORAGE.

4. FUEL STORAGE.

5. PREPARING A GO BAG.

6. FIRST AID.

7. EXTRA PREPAREDNESS SUPPLIES

At a BK disaster preparedness retreat in Frankston, Victoria a few years ago it was suggested that for short term disasters we now have at least 3 weeks of essential items in stock. It was said that for short term disasters, such as, earthquakes, fires, terror attacks etc, most essential services, such as water, food, electricity, access to banks, fuel etc, generally become available again within approximately 3 weeks. The information on this website was gathered from many global websites that specialise in disaster preparedness (not necessarily just BK information).

During my research I found that the topics for disaster preparedness seemed almost endless, but the pages on this site cover the main areas of most needed immediate preparedness.

I keep a large amount of small bank notes, ie $5 or $10 and coins on hand for when there are power outages (this happened recently) bank cards can not be used, only cash, so always keep some on hand in a safe place.

This website includes most of the essential items needed to help you cope with a short term or long term disaster. The site is put together by BK Jan from the Melbourne Retreat Centre. I'm happy to hear constructive suggestions from other BKs, but please before contacting me, make sure that the items that you suggest meet the below 5 requirements.

I have made sure that the items suggested here:

1. Are of good quality.

2. Are of the correct type needed (as there are lots of variations out there that are not).

3. Are from a reputable company and easily purchased.

4. Are affordable.

5. Are suitable for most people.

If you have anything to add or to comment on, email me: bkjan1111@gmail.com  Om shanti

Many of the suggested items have already been purchased by several souls from the Melbourne retreat centre and so I know that they are of good quality and fit for purpose. If possible, it would be a good idea to get together a group of BKs to buy in bulk to save time and money.

I am sure that you have noticed that some of the supermarket shelves are empty and there are lots of staff shortages due to the Coronavirus, so being disaster prepared now is important.

NEW: I am currently researching short term

alternative energy sources for rental properties (portable). I'd love to hear from anyone who has

information about this.

Note: because home owners can install solar panels

on their home, this section is for renters only who need to have a portable solar generator.

I'm suggesting solar as fuels won't be available during a disaster.

* I have endeavoured to thoroughly research each topic on this webpage, however I do not take responsibility for that information, it is offered as a guide only to start you on your journey to disaster preparedness. These notes are a suggestion only, it is important that you do your own research to suit your specific needs.
